Prez Murmu Revokes Rule in J& K, Opening Doors for NC-Congress Alliance Govt

New Delhi, 14 October (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu has made the historic decision to revoke President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir, paving the way for a new National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance government after the recently concluded Assembly elections.

This decision was announced through an official order issued by the Union Home Ministry, citing the powers conferred by the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.

The gazette notification, signed by President Murmu, states that the order will stand revoked before the appointment of a Chief Minister under section 54 of the Act. This move comes after the NC Vice-President Omar Abdullah met with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to stake claim to form a new government following their victory in the Assembly elections where they won a total of 48 seats in alliance with the Congress. This marks the end of President's Rule which was imposed on October 31, 2019, after the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

The historic decision to revoke Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was also a major factor leading up to this momentous event.

With Omar Abdullah set to become the Chief Minister, it is a new era for Jammu and Kashmir as it moves towards development and progress under the leadership of its democratically elected government.
