Kathmandu, 20 September (HS): The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has cleared the proposal of financial support of ₹100 crore for the development of an international stadium in Janakpurdham, in Nepal. The stadium to be named Shriram Janki International Stadium will be a multi-purpose stadium at the international level. Janakpurdham is the capital city of the Madhesh Pradesh province of Nepal.
During his visit to Janakpurdham Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced financial support of ₹100 crore for the stadium. The stadium with a seating capacity of 25,000 will have a football and a hockey ground, facilities for indoor games, and a sports museum. The DPR (Detailed Project Report) of the stadium has been cleared by the Parliament.
The estimated construction cost of the stadium is Rs 600 crores. The Madhesh Pradesh government has decided to provide Rs 10 crore for acquiring land. The Nepal government has also sanctioned Rs 25 crores.
Madhesh Pradesh Chief Minister Saroj Yadav and Sports Minister Dig Bahadur Limbu informed the media about the developments.
