Baghdad/ Gaza 8 Dec (HS): A powerful blast was heard near the US Consulate here on Friday morning. A warning siren continued to sound for a long period after the blast. A prominent newspaper The Jerusalem Post reported the incident. The Consulate, however, has not issued any response to the blast. None claimed responsibility for the blast.

USA forces faced about 70 attacks in Iran and Syria since October this year. A Shiite Muslim Armed Group in Iraq has claimed responsibility for these attacks.

Meanwhile, two Israeli soldiers were killed on Thursday during the fight against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Israel Defence Forces confirmed the death of Major Kobi Dwash (41) and Major Iyal Mir Barcovitz.
