New Delhi, September 08 (H.S.): Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Pawan Khera, chairman of the party’s Media and Publicity Department, expressed grief over the death of renowned Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh in Delhi, allegedly following an assault. The Congress leaders demanded a prompt investigation into the incident and strict action against those responsible.

Taking to the social media platform X on Tuesday, Mallikarjun Kharge said the brutal killing of Chongtham Vikram Singh in a mob attack was another serious incident reflecting the state of law and order under the BJP government. He said students were not safe, atrocities against women were taking place, and incidents of discrimination against people from the Northeast were being reported.

Calling for accountability over the law-and-order situation in Delhi, Kharge expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and said the victim’s family must receive justice and strict action must be taken against those responsible.

Rahul Gandhi said that Chongtham Vikram Singh had gone outside his home to ask some people to reduce the noise, but was allegedly beaten to death. He said the incident had raised serious questions about the safety of families from the Northeast living in Delhi. Rahul demanded a prompt investigation into the case and called for those responsible to be brought to justice.

Pawan Khera said that at first glance, the incident might appear to be an isolated act of violence committed under the influence of alcohol, but it also pointed to a broader social and administrative failure. He alleged that for years, disregard for rules, public disorder and the unequal enforcement of law had been normalised, creating a culture in which people could escape accountability.
