Guwahati, 08 September (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday paid a heartfelt tribute to legendary singer, composer and cultural icon Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his birth anniversary.

In a social media post, Sarma said Dr Hazarika was not merely a name for Assam but a globally renowned personality who was like a vast institution in himself. He said Hazarika’s legacy would remain eternal as long as the waters of the Brahmaputra continued to flow and the spirit of Bihu continued to run through the veins of the Assamese people.

The Chief Minister said the minds and hearts of the people of Assam would continue to be illuminated by the works of Bhupen Hazarika and Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, describing Dr Hazarika as an evergreen cultural icon.

Sarma also paid his humble respects to the legendary artiste on behalf of the people of Assam, recalling glimpses of memories from Dr Hazarika’s life.----------
