Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and others on Tuesday paid tribute to legendary musician, singer and lyricist Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his 100th birth anniversary.

Prime Minister Modi wrote on X, “Remembering the great Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his 100th birth anniversary. His voice carried the soul of Assam and the spirit of the Northeast, reaching every corner of the country. Through his music, he beautifully articulated the thoughts and emotions of countless people. His songs brought people closer to one another. I fondly recall the memorable experience of joining the launch of his birth centenary celebrations in Guwahati last year. Bhupen Da’s life and work will continue to inspire generations to come.”

Om Birla said that the great musician, singer and lyricist Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, who was honoured with the Bharat Ratna and was a powerful voice of India's cultural consciousness, including that of the Northeast, gave profound expression through his songs to the emotions of everyday life, the aspirations of ordinary people, humanity's bond with nature and deeply rooted human values. Through his creativity, he carried the rich folk culture of Assam and the voice of Northeast India to audiences across the country and the world. His immortal compositions continue to convey messages of empathy, harmony and humanity even today.
