Kolkata, 07 September (H.S.) : The West Bengal government has begun the process of disbursing enhanced social security allowances to senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities. The monthly pension for eligible beneficiaries has been increased from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday formally launched the distribution of the enhanced pension under the National Social Assistance Programme at the state secretariat, Nabanna. The programme was organised by the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare.

During the launch ceremony, the Chief Minister handed over the enhanced benefits to several senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities, marking the formal commencement of the revised pension payments.

Speaking on the occasion, Adhikari said that despite the difficult financial condition of West Bengal due to the previous government, his administration had fulfilled its commitment to increase the social security allowance.

The Chief Minister also made it clear that the pension benefits would be restricted to eligible beneficiaries and that no allowance would be provided to ineligible persons.

He said the government would ensure proper verification of beneficiaries’ eligibility so that financial assistance reaches only those who genuinely qualify for the scheme.

The increase in the monthly allowance from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 is expected to provide additional financial support to senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities across West Bengal.
