
Kolkata, 07 September (H.S.) : The Visva-Bharati Academic Association has unanimously constituted a new committee for the 2026-29 term, with Professor Biplab Loh Chowdhury, who served as the founding convenor of the ABRSM Central University Teachers’ Association from 2013 to 2019, elected as its president.
The newly formed committee includes Dr Ajay Das as vice-president, Dr Shubhra Jyoti Das as general secretary, Professor Bholanath Mandal and Dr Pragyalankar Bhikkhu as joint secretaries, and Dr Abhijit Ghosh as treasurer. Twenty members have also been nominated to the executive committee.
According to the association, it is the only university branch of ABRSM where both teachers and academic staff are represented in the same committee.
Following his election, Professor Loh Chowdhury appealed to all members to make a positive contribution towards restoring the prestige and glory of the university. He stressed the need for members to work collectively and play an active role in safeguarding the interests of the institution.
He also announced a fresh membership drive to be conducted during September and October. The initiative aims to bring more members into the association after the Puja festivities, with participation expected to increase around Vijayadashami.
The Visva-Bharati Academic Association currently has around 70 members. Through the upcoming membership campaign, the organisation aims to expand its membership base and further strengthen the participation of teachers and academic staff in the association.
