London, September 07 (H.S.): The third week of the 2026-27 Premier League season witnessed several historic achievements and thrilling encounters. Alexander Isak made an impressive start for Liverpool, Erling Haaland completed 300 goals in club football, Arsenal maintained their perfect record with a third consecutive victory, while Newcastle United staged a remarkable comeback against Bournemouth after falling two goals behind.

Haaland Completes 300 Club Goals

Erling Haaland reached the landmark of 300 goals in top-level club football by scoring the decisive goal for Manchester City against Coventry City. He achieved the feat in his 368th appearance. It was also his 20th headed goal in the Premier League, the most headed goals scored by a Manchester City player in the competition.

Manchester City have won all three of their opening Premier League matches this season. It is the eighth time the club have made such a start, while Chelsea have achieved the feat more often.

Isak Scores Twice Within Nine Minutes

Alexander Isak made an immediate impact for Liverpool by scoring twice inside the opening nine minutes of their 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town. It was the first time since 2011 that a Liverpool player had scored two goals so early in a Premier League match.

Both goals were assisted by Cody Gakpo. He became the first player since 1998 to provide two assists for the same teammate within the opening nine minutes of a Premier League match. Isak has scored five Premier League goals at Portman Road since the beginning of the 2024-25 season, joint-most by any player at an opponent’s ground during that period.

Arsenal Register Third Consecutive Victory

Arsenal came from behind to defeat Chelsea 2-1 and record their third consecutive victory of the season. Martin Odegaard has scored three goals in four appearances across all competitions this season, compared with just one goal in 36 appearances last season.

Arsenal’s victory also ended a run of 14 Premier League matches against Chelsea in which they had failed to win after falling behind.

Manchester United’s Defensive Concerns Persist

Manchester United have conceded at least two goals in each of their opening three league matches. It is only the second time in the past 50 years that the club have started a league season by conceding two or more goals in three consecutive matches.

Against Everton, Bryan Mbeumo scored just 46 seconds after the start of the second half. However, Ainsley Maitland-Niles equalised for the hosts in the 95th minute to ensure the match ended in a draw.

Newcastle Stage Remarkable Comeback

Newcastle United fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth. It was the first time since March 2024 that Newcastle had avoided defeat after trailing by two or more goals. Before this match, Newcastle had lost their previous 15 Premier League games in which they had fallen two or more goals behind.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, set an unwanted record. They became the first team in Premier League history to score the opening goal in each of their first three matches of a season without winning any of them.

Gross Reaches 250 Premier League Appearances

Brighton’s Pascal Gross became the fourth German player to make 250 Premier League appearances. He joined Robert Huth, Dietmar Hamann and Bernd Leno, who had previously reached the milestone.

Brighton centre-back Luka Vuskovic has scored seven goals since the beginning of last season, the most by any centre-back across Europe’s top five leagues during that period.
