Srinagar, 07 September (H.S.): In a major security lapse, an accused from South Kashmir has escaped from the custody of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) at its headquarters in Jammu.

The accused has been identified as Aqib Bashir, a resident of Kakapora area of Pulwama district.

Officials told that Aqib Bashir, who was under NCB custody in connection with a narcotics case, managed to escape late last night from the NCB office.

Soon after the incident came to light, senior officers were informed and a massive manhunt has been launched to re-arrest the accused. Multiple teams have been constituted and searches are being carried out at various locations.

Police have also been alerted and nakas have been established in and around Jammu to trace the escapee.

An inquiry is also expected to be initiated into the circumstances leading to the escape and to fix responsibility for the lapse.
