Guwahati, 07 September (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Monday attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of a ₹250-crore infrastructure development project at Gauhati University. The foundation stone was laid by Vice-President of India CP Radhakrishnan at the University Convention Centre in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Welcoming the Vice-President, Governor Acharya said his presence at Gauhati University, a prominent centre of learning, was a matter of pride and inspiration for students and the academic community of Assam. He highlighted Radhakrishnan’s long public service and his contributions to public welfare, youth empowerment and education.

Describing the ₹250-crore infrastructure project as a major milestone, the Governor said it would strengthen the university’s capacity in research, knowledge and innovation and contribute to Assam’s future development.

Acharya highlighted Gauhati University’s academic legacy, noting that it has more than 300 affiliated colleges and over 2.5 lakh students. He also referred to its NAAC A+ accreditation as an indication of its commitment to quality education.

The Governor stressed the need to integrate India’s traditional knowledge systems with modern education in accordance with the National Education Policy. He urged students to combine tradition with technology and knowledge with innovation while contributing to the development of Assam and the country.

He also welcomed the launch of the Assamese dictionary ‘Chandrakanta Abhidhan’ and the publication ‘Bhupen Hazarika – Hundred Years of a Wandering Song’, describing them as significant efforts to preserve and enrich the Assamese language.

Calling upon the youth to contribute to the vision of Viksit Assam and Viksit Bharat, Acharya said strengthening educational institutions, empowering teachers and nurturing young talent would be crucial for Assam’s progress.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor Nani Gopal Mahanta, Registrar Utpal Sharma, faculty members, students and other dignitaries attended the programme.------------
