NEW DELHI, September 07 (H.S.): Global markets are giving indications of weakness on Monday. US markets closed lower in the previous session, while Dow Jones futures are also currently trading in negative territory. European markets ended the previous session on a mixed note, while Asian markets are witnessing mixed trading today.

Negative sentiment remained dominant during the previous session amid concerns over the possibility of an interest rate hike in the United States, resulting in Wall Street’s major indices closing lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 272.51 points, or 0.51 per cent, to 53,413.60. Similarly, the S&P 500 fell 0.38 per cent to close the previous session at 7,718.60. The Nasdaq also declined 0.29 per cent to finish at 26,506.99. Meanwhile, Dow Jones futures were trading 193.53 points, or 0.36 per cent, lower at 53,220.72.

European markets witnessed mixed trading during the previous session. The CAC index closed 0.09 per cent lower at 8,278.77, while the DAX index ended the session 0.17 per cent higher at 26,046.40. Meanwhile, the FTSE index remained unchanged during the previous session as the London Stock Exchange was closed for a holiday.

Asian markets are also witnessing mixed trading today. Of the nine major Asian markets, five indices are trading in positive territory, while four are trading in the red. The GIFT Nifty declined 115.50 points, or 0.48 per cent, to 23,894.50. Similarly, the Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.24 per cent to 3,920.70.

The Hang Seng Index recorded a sharp decline and was trading 269.87 points, or 1.05 per cent, lower at 25,381. The Straits Times Index also declined 0.10 per cent to 5,796.21.

On the other hand, the Nikkei Index was trading 1,254.06 points, or 1.93 per cent, higher at 66,275. Similarly, the Taiwan Weighted Index climbed 681.66 points, or 1.46 per cent, to 47,232.79.

The KOSPI Index also registered a sharp rise, gaining 225.97 points, or 3.38 per cent, to reach 6,913.18. Likewise, the SET Composite Index advanced 1.24 per cent to 1,615.31. The Jakarta Composite Index was also trading marginally higher, up 0.01 per cent at 6,637.13.
