New Delhi, 07 September (H.S.): The Central Government said on Monday that coal supplies to the power sector have continued to improve. Over the past four days, coal loading has recorded a significant increase of 74 rakes per day, taking the figure to 444 rakes per day. The improvement is the result of ongoing efforts to meet the country’s power generation requirements.

The Ministry of Coal said on Monday that 370 rakes per day had previously been dispatched for the power sector, which increased to 444 rakes per day on September 3. This represents an overall increase of 74 rakes per day within four days, amounting to nearly 20 per cent growth. Of this improvement, 31 rakes were added on September 6 alone. The ministry said the increase reflects sustained efforts by Coal India Limited (CIL), its subsidiaries, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and captive mine operators to augment coal supplies to the power sector.

The ministry said close monitoring is being maintained of critical thermal power plants, defined as plants where coal stocks are below 25 per cent of the prescribed normative requirement. Corrective measures related to coal supplies have already been put in place to further improve the situation at these plants.
