Dhemaji (Assam), 07 September (HS): A nine-member team of the Assam Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell on Monday carried out a search at the official residence of Dhemaji District Development Commissioner (DDC) and senior Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Debeswar Bora in connection with an ongoing disproportionate assets investigation.

The vigilance team, which travelled from Guwahati in two vehicles, conducted the search at Bora’s government accommodation and questioned the officer during the operation. The authorities have not so far disclosed details of the case or the specific documents and materials being examined.

Preliminary information suggests that the Vigilance Cell initiated a case following a complaint lodged by a doctor. The allegations reportedly relate to suspected irregularities during Bora’s tenure as Joint Secretary in the Medical Education and Research Department under the Health Department.

The preliminary inquiry is also believed to have brought several assets allegedly linked to the senior ACS officer under scrutiny. Properties located in Guwahati and Lakhimpur are reportedly being examined as part of the investigation.

Sources said some of the properties under the scanner are registered in the names of Bora’s wife and other family members. Investigators are likely to verify the ownership details and trace the sources of funds used for purchasing the properties.

The search of the DDC’s official residence and the questioning of Bora are expected to help investigators gather additional information concerning the allegations.

The Assam Vigilance Cell has not yet released an official statement on the search or disclosed any findings from Monday’s operation. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.-----------
