After Forest Deptt Sought FIR, Police Registers Case In Poonch Guard Attack


Jammu, 07 September (H.S.): A Forest Beat Guard who was allegedly attacked by two persons while performing official duty in Poonch, following which police have registered an FIR against the accused.

As per the Forest Department, the incident took place on Saturday, September 06, during extraction of departmental firewood at Banwat from Compartment No. 182/H, Beat Poonch, Forest Block Poonch for cremation purposes.

In a communication to Station House Officer, Police Station Poonch, Forest Range Officer, Haveli Poonch stated that two persons namely Abdul Majid son of Aziza, resident of Banwat and Mohd Aftab son of Fazal Hussain, resident of Banwat attacked Beat Guard Poonch, Mohd Shabir.

As per the letter, the Beat Guard sustained multiple injuries, as is evident from a video, and his uniform was also torn while he was performing official duty. It further stated that other officials also tried to brief the people regarding departmental extraction of firewood, but they attacked the Beat Guard and other officials on duty.

The Forest Range Officer had sought registration of an FIR and arrest of the accused persons under relevant sections for attempt to murder, attack during official duty, manhandling, misbehaving and life threatening.

Acting on the complaint, police have taken cognizance and registered an FIR against the two accused.

Further investigation has been taken up.
