Guwahati, 06 September (HS): Social and cultural organisation Pragya organised Guru Pujan ceremonies across Assam on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, aiming to revive and strengthen the traditional Indian Guru-Shishya relationship among the younger generation.

A total of 195 programmes were held across 25 districts of Assam, including at Guwahati University, colleges, higher secondary schools, secondary schools and primary schools. As many as 4,121 teachers were honoured through traditional ceremonial gestures of respect. More than 30,000 students and members of the public participated in the programmes across the state.

The ceremonies began with students washing the feet of their teachers and seeking their blessings, followed by aarti and recitation of traditional Guru Vandana mantras.

At each programme, a distinguished member of society spoke on the life and philosophy of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the contribution of teachers to society and the significance of the Indian Guru-Shishya tradition.

Several teachers became emotional while participating in the ceremonies and expressed gratitude to Pragya for organising the initiative. They said such programmes are particularly relevant in modern times to strengthen teacher-student relationships based on respect, values and emotional connect.

Pragya stated that a teacher is not merely a provider of knowledge but also a guide and one of the key pillars of nation-building. The organisation has been conducting Guru Pujan programmes every year on September 5 with the objective of fostering respect, gratitude and a sense of responsibility towards teachers among the younger generation.

The organisation expressed hope that such initiatives would help young people connect more deeply with India’s traditional Guru-Shishya heritage and further strengthen the culture of respecting teachers.------------
