NEW DELHI, September 06 (H.S.): The Patiala House Court in Delhi has sent Swatantra Bhardwaj, accused of assaulting and injuring the father of a protester during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar, to one day of judicial custody. Bhardwaj’s police custody was ending on Sunday, following which he was produced before Duty Magistrate Anjali Singh through video conferencing.

The court had remanded Swatantra Bhardwaj to police custody until September 5. He was arrested from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh on September 4.

Swatantra Bhardwaj had admitted during a podcast that he had assaulted the father of a female student protester on the head. Following the podcast, members of the Kakroach Janta Party and workers of some political parties staged a protest outside the Sansad Marg Police Station. The protesters demanded that an FIR be registered against Bhardwaj, arguing that he had himself admitted to the assault during the podcast.

Following the protest, Bhardwaj was arrested in Bulandshahr. An FIR has been registered against him under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
