New Delhi, September 05 (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inspected waterlogged areas in East Delhi following heavy rainfall and directed officials to take immediate measures to remove accumulated water and prevent further disruption to residents.

Gupta conducted a surprise inspection near Sadbhavna Park, where she reviewed the situation in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and assessed the functioning of the drainage system. She also took stock of road cleanliness and the challenges created by the continuing spell of rain.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister directed officials to deploy water pumps and other necessary equipment without delay in affected areas. She also instructed departments to ensure that stagnant water is cleared promptly and that drainage arrangements are strengthened during the monsoon.

The Chief Minister stressed the need for close coordination among all concerned departments so that residents do not face unnecessary inconvenience during periods of heavy rainfall.

The inspection came a day after heavy rain caused waterlogging in several parts of Delhi, including areas around Indira Gandhi International Airport. The adverse weather also affected traffic movement on several major roads.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Delhi and adjoining areas are expected to remain under the influence of heavy rainfall on September 5 and September 6. The weather agency has indicated that there is no heavy-rain warning for Delhi from September 7 onwards.

Ahead of the upcoming BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, senior Delhi government officials also reviewed the route connecting Bharat Mandapam with Indira Gandhi International Airport.
