New Delhi, September 05 (H.S.): More than 500 institutional investors, pension funds and family offices are expected to participate in the inaugural iBRICS Summit 2026, scheduled to be held in the national capital on September 12 and 13.

Organisers said on Saturday that India’s BRICS Chairship will host a Global Sovereign Capital Summit involving a sovereign capital pool worth US$1 trillion. The iBRICS Summit will bring together more than 500 institutional investors, pension funds and family offices.

The two-day 18th BRICS Summit will also be held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. The objective of the iBRICS Summit is to connect sovereign capital and investors with bankable projects in infrastructure, energy and digital capacity across the 21 BRICS member and partner countries.

According to a statement issued by the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI), the summit is being organised at a time when BRICS economies are recalibrating their strategies amid changing trade conditions, US tariff policies and rising costs associated with dollar-based transactions. The SWFI said discussions at the summit will also explore the possibility of linking national instant payment networks such as India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Brazil’s Pix, as well as interoperability among central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).

BRICS is an international grouping of major emerging-market and developing economies. It originally comprised five countries, but following its expansion, it now has 11 member states. The acronym BRIC was derived from the initial letters of the English names of Brazil, Russia, India and China. It became BRICS after South Africa joined the grouping in 2011.

The grouping was established in 2006, while its first summit was held in 2009. BRICS seeks to promote economic cooperation and trade among its members and strengthen reforms in global political and economic governance.

The current BRICS members are Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
