Bhubaneswar, 05 September (H.S.): Authorities at the Hirakud Dam on Saturday closed three sluice gates to regulate the reservoir outflow, leaving four gates open as the water level continued to show a declining trend, according to the latest reservoir update.

At 9 am, the reservoir water level stood at 627.45 feet, with the average inflow and outflow recorded at 1,47,524 cusecs each.

Following the closure of three gates, four sluice gates remained open—three on the left side and one on the right side.

The spillway discharge was recorded at 1,13,722 cusecs, while the power channel carried 30,461 cusecs. Industrial consumption accounted for 229 cusecs, and the total canal discharge stood at 3,112 cusecs.

Downstream, the discharge at Belgaon was recorded at 14,800 cusecs, while Patharla reported 35,621 cusecs. The discharge at Khairmal stood at 2,02,000 cusecs, followed by 1,77,500 cusecs at Barmul and 1,55,182 cusecs at Mundali.

The downstream discharge trends varied across monitoring locations. Barmul recorded a rising trend, while Belgaon and Patharla showed declining trends. The discharge at Mundali remained relatively steady.
