Nagaon (Assam), 05 September (HS): Former Nagaon Deputy Commissioner and IAS officer Debashis Sharma is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) within the next couple of days.

Sharma is reportedly set to join the BJP after being impressed by the work and initiatives of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sources said that the BJP has already been in touch with Sharma regarding his induction into the party.

Speaking about his political plans, Sharma said that if the BJP gives him the party ticket after his joining, he will definitely contest the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election.

Sharma voluntarily retired from government service on Thursday. He had been serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon since June 16, 2025.------------
