Amritsar, 05 September (H.S.): Congress leader Gurdeep Singh Sirsa was seriously injured after being shot during a dispute between two groups in the Ajnala area late at night.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place near Jagdev Khurd village, close to Ajnala. A verbal altercation reportedly broke out between two groups and later escalated into a confrontation.

Gurdeep Singh Sirsa is said to have reached the spot in an attempt to mediate and calm the situation. It is alleged that someone from the other side opened fire during the dispute, and a bullet struck Sirsa.

He was first taken to the Civil Hospital in Ajnala, where he received preliminary treatment. Due to the seriousness of his condition, doctors later referred him to Amritsar for further medical care.

Ajnala police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and launched an investigation. Police are trying to identify those involved and determine the exact reason behind the dispute.

Ajnala SHO Ajaypal Singh said Sirsa is currently undergoing treatment. His statement will be recorded once his condition improves.

Police are also investigating who fired the shot and how the confrontation began. Further legal action will be taken on the basis of the victim’s statement and evidence collected from the scene.
