Murshidabad, 05 September (H.S.): A Bangladeshi national who allegedly escaped from a prison van while being taken to court in police custody was arrested from the Miyapur area on Saturday morning following an around 24-hour search operation. The other person who had escaped with him was arrested by police shortly after the incident.

According to police sources, Anarul Sheikh and Mohammad Rubel Sheikh, both residents of Bangladesh’s Chapainawabganj district, were detained from the Krishnashail More area of Raghunathganj on Thursday for allegedly not possessing valid documents.

At around noon on Friday, Raghunathganj Police were taking the two men, along with three other accused persons, to the Jangipur Sub-Divisional Court. During the journey, a police personnel reportedly got down from the vehicle to make photocopies of documents. Taking advantage of the situation, the two allegedly escaped from the police prison van.

Police immediately launched a search operation following the incident. Anarul Sheikh was caught within a short time, but Rubel Sheikh managed to evade the police.

According to police, Rubel crossed the Kharkhari River and allegedly took shelter in the dense forested area of Gopalnagar. Police conducted an extensive search throughout the night, including setting up checkpoints and cordoning off the forest area.

After nearly 24 hours, Rubel Sheikh was finally arrested from the Miyapur area on Saturday morning. Police have initiated the process of producing both men before the court.
