New Delhi, 04 September (H.S.): Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is on a visit to the United States, on Friday highlighted investment opportunities in India’s digital infrastructure, financial services and GIFT City during a series of separate meetings with senior executives of global companies in New York. She said the Government of India is keen to attract greater foreign investment into the country’s expanding economy.

During her meeting with Alejandro Perez, Group Chief Operating Officer of BNY Mellon, Sitharaman discussed large-scale investment by global financial institutions and the opportunities emerging from India’s expanding financial ecosystem, Digital Public Infrastructure, Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and GIFT City-IFSC. She cited India’s real GDP growth of 7.8 per cent in the first quarter (April-June) of financial year 2026-27, strong domestic demand, deepening financial markets and a reform-oriented policy environment as factors strengthening investor confidence.

During the meeting, Perez emphasised BNY Mellon’s longstanding commitment to India and said the country is rapidly emerging not only as a delivery centre but also as a strategic global hub for advanced capabilities in innovation, technology and artificial intelligence. Taking forward the discussion on India’s growing financial ecosystem, Sitharaman invited BNY Mellon to visit GIFT-IFSC and explore the products and services available there.

The Finance Minister also met Sanjeev Ahuja, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tillman Holdings. The meeting focused on opportunities to develop large-scale, robust and sustainable digital infrastructure campuses. Sitharaman said India’s policy framework, including recent Budget announcements, is encouraging investment in digital infrastructure. Rapid growth in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, digital services and enterprise technology is driving sustained demand for data centres, high-capacity networks and reliable power infrastructure.

During her meeting with Ahuja, Sitharaman said companies such as Tillman Holdings are well positioned to participate in the next phase of India’s digital infrastructure development. In another meeting, Sitharaman discussed investment and expansion opportunities with Dean Klisura, President and Chief Executive Officer of Marsh McLennan, and other senior officials.
