Chandigarh, 04 September (H.S.): The Punjab Government has promoted 181 teachers, including four Block Primary Education Officers, as Headmasters in a move aimed at strengthening leadership in government schools across the state.

Announcing the decision, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the promotions would help fill key vacancies and ensure stronger on-ground leadership under the Punjab Sikhya Kranti initiative.

Bains said the promotions also mark an important career progression opportunity for teachers and reflect the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government’s commitment to employee welfare.

Of the 181 teachers promoted as Headmasters, 140 belong to the General category, 23 to the Scheduled Caste category, six are Persons with Disabilities, while eight have been promoted from the backlog PwD quota. In addition, four Block Primary Education Officers have also been elevated.

Calling the move a transformative step, Bains said strong leadership is essential for improving the functioning of government schools and motivating both teachers and students.

He said the government is working towards ensuring that every school has an effective and capable Headmaster who can lead from the front and help improve the quality of education.

Congratulating the newly promoted Headmasters, the Education Minister said the promotion orders were issued after a detailed process based on seniority and merit.

He added that all eligible and deserving candidates were considered during the process to ensure transparency and fairness in appointments to these important leadership positions.

Bains said the newly promoted Headmasters would assume charge immediately and are expected to bring fresh energy, better coordination and stronger academic leadership to government schools.

The Education Minister said the move is part of the state government’s broader effort to strengthen the public education system by filling important posts and empowering school-level leadership.
