Udalguri, 04 September (H.S.): The Kalaigaon Anchalik Students’ Union staged a strong protest on Friday over the deplorable and dilapidated condition of the Mangaldai–Bhutiagaon connecting road. As the road has not been repaired or reconstructed for a long time, large potholes have developed at several stretches, causing severe inconvenience to commuters, motorists and local residents.
Demanding the immediate reconstruction of the road, activists of the students’ union blocked the road and staged a protest. The protesters raised slogans against the government and the concerned department, demanding that the construction work on the road be completed at the earliest.
The students’ union alleged that despite repeated demands regarding the poor condition of the road, the concerned authorities have so far failed to take concrete steps towards finding a permanent solution. The protesters warned that if the road is not repaired soon and the traffic-related problems are not resolved, they will launch a broader democratic movement in the coming days.
