New Delhi, 04 September (H.S.): The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has intensified preparations for the BRICS Summit-2026, scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam from September 11 to 13. In view of the summit, special cleanliness drives, beautification, green development, maintenance and decorative lighting arrangements are being undertaken along VIP routes, major roads, markets and around hotels where delegates will stay. NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal said on Friday that the capital would showcase a glimpse of “Developed New Delhi” in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Developed India” during the summit.

Kuljeet Singh Chahal said New Delhi was being given a clean, green, beautiful and world-class appearance for the important international event. Decorative lighting arrangements are being made at 17 major roundabouts, 11 hotel complexes and 10 prominent NDMC buildings ahead of the summit. Work orders for all these projects have already been issued and installation work has commenced. All the works have been targeted for completion by September 9.

The NDMC Vice Chairman said electrical decorative lighting was being installed at 17 major roundabouts. These include Patel Chowk, Windsor Place, Mandi House, Shantipath-Kautilya, Shantipath-Panchsheel, Shantipath-Satya Marg, RML, Teen Murti, Q-Point, Claridges Hotel, Samrat Hotel, Ashoka Hotel, Methi, Lok Kalyan Metro Station, Man Singh, York Place and PM Roundabout.

Chahal said 11 major hotel complexes would also be illuminated with decorative lighting ahead of the event. These include Taj Palace, ITC Maurya, Ashoka Hotel, Samrat Hotel, The Leela Hotel, Taj Mansingh, Claridges Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel, Le Meridien and The Imperial Hotel, among other identified hotel complexes. Trees along the roads surrounding these hotels will also be decorated with decorative lights.

Ten major NDMC buildings and sites will also be illuminated. These include Palika Kendra, NDCC Phase-II, Convention Centre, Chandralok Building, Ashirwad Old Age Home, the Charaka Museum, Central Park and the Palika Bazaar area, AAV Mandir Marg, Lok Nayak Bhawan and Chanakya Bhawan.

Special beautification and decorative lighting arrangements are being undertaken along major routes used by BRICS delegates, hotel areas and markets. Particular attention is being paid to cleanliness, green beautification, floral decorations and lighting arrangements in these areas.

One hundred per cent verification of streetlights along all routes associated with the event has been completed. All lights found to be defective during the verification process have been replaced to ensure better illumination along major routes during the summit.

In view of the BRICS Summit-2026, facelift work has also been carried out on around 350 electricity panel boxes installed along roads by applying flex stickers.

A total of 309 branding sites have been identified in the NDMC area. These comprise 154 digital media screens, 83 PTU and CTU flex sites, and 72 bus queue shelters. Installation work at all these branding sites has been completed. The branding has been carried out according to designs shared by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Floral-decorated boards will be installed at 15 major locations, while flower fountains will be installed at nine locations.

To improve air quality and control dust and pollution, special mist-spraying arrangements have been made at five major locations: Lodhi Road, Tilak Marg, Africa Avenue, Shantipath and Zakir Hussain Marg. Mist spraying will be carried out regularly at these locations as required.

A total of 41 major roads along delegate and VIP routes are being monitored circle-wise. Repair work on roads, footpaths and bus shelters has been completed. Painting work has been completed on 32 roads, while work is continuing on the remaining nine roads.

As part of the sanitation arrangements, 14 sanitation circles have been linked with 14 inspection circles. Round-the-clock cleaning arrangements are being ensured at event venues and along major routes. Since traffic restrictions will remain in place during the daytime from September 5 to 14, sanitation work will primarily be carried out during the night shift.

During the summit, special mechanical road sweeping will be undertaken at night along major routes. Ten pressure-jetting machines will be deployed for intensive cleaning of major roads and public spaces.

In view of recent rainfall, an additional 80 HP pump and a mobile pumping van with a capacity of 24 IIP have been deployed at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, in addition to the existing 80 HP pump. At Mandir Marg, a 20 HP pump has been installed in addition to the existing 32 HP pump. An additional 45 metres of drainage pipe with a diameter of 900 mm has also been laid.

Orders have been issued for the Integrated Command and Control Centre located on the ground floor of Palika Kendra to operate round the clock from September 5 to 14. Two officers of the Director and Joint Director ranks will be deployed across the three shifts. In addition, 11 wings have been assigned for night duty.

The NDMC control room will also remain operational during the summit. Helpline numbers 011-23348300, 011-23348301 and the toll-free number 1533 have been issued for complaints related to civic amenities and emergency situations. A nodal officer has been designated for better coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs.

Chahal said the beautification of New Delhi during the BRICS Summit would not be limited to decoration but would also showcase India’s spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, its tradition of hospitality and the country’s growing global standing as a modern nation.

He said that during the G20 Summit as well, the NDMC had undertaken extensive preparations related to cleanliness, beautification, green development, road and footpath maintenance, decorative lighting and civic amenities. The experience and lessons gained during that event are now being applied more effectively to the preparations for the BRICS Summit.

Kuljeet Singh Chahal said the BRICS Summit being hosted in India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was an important international opportunity for the country. The summit would showcase India’s growing global role, leadership capabilities and strengthening ties with major countries across the world.
