Thiruvananthaouram, 30 Sept (H.S.): Rainfall is likely to intensify across Kerala from Wednesday under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting isolated heavy showers over the next four days.

Yellow alerts have been issued for several districts between Wednesday and Saturday as the weather system is expected to bring renewed rainfall to the state.

Pathanamthitta and Idukki are under a yellow alert on Wednesday. On Thursday, the warning will cover six districts: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Malappuram.

Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad will remain under a yellow alert on Friday, while Pathanamthitta and Idukki will again be covered by the warning on Saturday.

The forecast indicates the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations. The alerts are district-specific, with the areas likely to receive heavy showers changing over the four-day period.

According to the weather department, a cyclonic circulation over the northern Andaman Sea is likely to move northwestwards, parallel to the Myanmar and Bangladesh coasts, before reaching the northeastern Bay of Bengal.

The influence of this system is expected to strengthen rainfall over Kerala in the coming days. The department has forecast isolated heavy rain on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, signalling a fresh spell of wet weather.

A warning has been issued for fishermen operating near the northern Myanmar coast, the Bangladesh coast and adjoining parts of the northeastern Bay of Bengal.

These areas are likely to experience adverse weather and strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, with gusts occasionally touching 60 kilometres per hour.

Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the specified waters during the warning period because of the expected strong winds and unfavourable weather conditions.

The marine warning applies to the identified coastal and offshore areas around Myanmar, Bangladesh and the northeastern Bay of Bengal.
