Chennai, 30 Sept (H.S.):

Tamil Nadu police sources said a chargesheet against Gem Granites founder R. Veeramani, 84, is expected within 10 days, as the special investigation team nears completion of its probe into the original child sexual abuse case.

The team is preparing to place its findings before the Special POCSO Court, about a month after Veeramani was arrested following judicial intervention that revived the investigation.

A senior police official said the filing could take place within a week, with investigators working to complete the remaining formalities at the earliest.

Alongside that process, the SIT is examining additional complaints against Veeramani, including one that led to another POCSO case being registered on Monday.

The newer case, based on a complaint by the mother of a minor girl, will have a separate chargesheet. Police said that investigation was also being expedited.

The original case dates to October 7, 2025, when an NGO volunteer submitted a pen drive to the Greater Chennai Police’s Anti-Vice Squad. It contained a video purportedly showing Veeramani sexually assaulting a minor.

Police sought to close the case in February, citing difficulties in identifying the girl. The Special POCSO Court rejected the closure report and ordered further investigation.

On August 29, police arrested Veeramani, M. Shanthi, 60, and her husband, Mahendra Simhan, 63.

They were booked under Sections 7, 8, 15(1) and 21(1) of the POCSO Act and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

Provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were added after investigators established that one survivor belonged to a Scheduled Caste community.

Ganesan, 45, a former employee, was later arrested for allegedly possessing the video and failing to report it. All four remain in judicial custody.

Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal constituted the all-woman SIT on September 24 to investigate the original case and examine related complaints.
