Aichi-Nagoya, 30 September (H.S.): India’s star boxer Lovlina Borgohain advanced to the final of the women’s 75kg category at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova 3-2 by split decision in a closely contested semi-final at Nishio Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Borgohain did not make the ideal start, losing the opening round 2-3. However, the Indian boxer produced a superb response in the second round. All five judges awarded her 10 points, allowing her to establish a firm advantage in the contest.

Bogdanova edged the third round 3-2, but it was not enough to overturn Borgohain’s advantage from the opening two rounds. The Indian prevailed on the overall score to book her place in the final.

Before reaching the semi-finals, Borgohain defeated South Korea’s Seong Su-yeon by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the quarter-finals.

Borgohain will now aim to upgrade the colour of her Asian Games medal. She won a silver medal in the middleweight category at the Hangzhou Asian Games three years ago and will now enter the ring seeking gold.

Borgohain also won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year. She lost to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree in the final.
