New Delhi, 30 September (H.S.): India enjoyed a highly productive 12th day at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning seven medals on Wednesday, including four gold, one silver and two bronze. Indian archers and shooters accounted for all four gold medals. At the close of the day’s competition, India’s overall tally stood at 60 medals — 10 gold, 21 silver and 29 bronze — placing the country eighth in the medal standings.

Archery Dominates as India Complete Three-Gold Sweep

India completed a remarkable sweep of all three compound archery gold medals on offer.

In the women’s compound team event, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeated China 238-234 to claim gold. India’s score equalled the world record.

In the mixed compound team event, Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Rajesh Jadhav defeated South Korea in a shoot-off to win gold. The victory also secured India a quota place in the mixed compound team event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where the discipline is set to make its Olympic debut.

In the men’s compound team event, Sahil Rajesh Jadhav, Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru and Kushal Dalal edged past China 238-237 to secure India’s third archery gold of the day.

Shooting Produces Mixed Team Gold

India also secured gold in the mixed team trap event through Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Darius Chenai. The Indian pair scored 34 out of 40 to set an Asian record. It was India’s first gold medal in the mixed team trap event.

In the first qualification stage of the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event, Anish Bhanwala scored 290 points. The second qualification stage and final are scheduled for October 1.

Three Boxing Medals Secured

In the women’s 60kg category, Priya Ghanghas lost 1-4 to China’s Yang Chengyu in the semi-final and had to settle for bronze.

In the women’s 75kg category, Lovlina Borgohain defeated Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova 3-2 to reach the final, thereby assuring herself of at least a silver medal.

In the men’s 90kg category, Kapil Pokhriya lost 1-4 to Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullaev in the semi-final and secured a bronze medal.

Women’s Hockey Team Reach Final

India’s women’s hockey team defeated South Korea 2-0 to book their place in the final. India will face China in the gold-medal match.

Wrestling: Sunil Kumar Claims Bronze

In the men’s Greco-Roman 87kg category, Sunil Kumar defeated the Philippines’ Calum Johnston Roberts 9-0 by technical superiority to win bronze. It was Sunil’s second Asian Games bronze medal, making him the first Indian wrestler to win two Asian Games medals in Greco-Roman wrestling.

In the women’s 68kg category, Nisha Dahiya was eliminated after losing her repechage bout to North Korea’s Pak Sol-gum.

Both Indian Squash Teams Reach Semi-finals

India’s women’s squash team defeated Singapore 2-0 in the quarter-finals to advance to the semi-finals. The men’s team also secured a place in the last four after defeating Kuwait 2-0.

Sumit Nagal Advances to Tennis Quarter-finals

In the men’s singles third round, Sumit Nagal defeated Uzbekistan’s Sergey Fomin 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals. Dakshineswar Suresh, meanwhile, lost 3-6, 4-6 to Chinese Taipei’s Tseng Chun-hsin.

In men’s doubles, the pairings of Anirudh Chandrasekar-N. Sriram Balaji and Yuki Bhambri-Dakshineswar Suresh were eliminated after quarter-final defeats.

Saptak Talwar Joint Second in Golf

In the opening round of the men’s individual stroke play, Saptak Talwar carded a four-under 66 to sit joint second. Veer Ahlawat and Yuvraj Sandhu returned cards of one-over 71 each. India’s men’s team was joint fifth at three under.

In the women’s event, Pranavi Urs carded a four-under 66, while Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar shot one-over 71s. The Indian women’s team stood joint sixth at three under.

Mixed Results in Canoe Slalom and Cycling

In the men’s kayak single event, Pradyumn Singh Rathore finished sixth with a time of 125.21 seconds. Hitesh Kevat finished 14th in the semi-finals and was eliminated. In the women’s canoe single event, Pallavi Jagtap was disqualified in the final, while Reena Sen finished ninth in the semi-finals.

In track cycling, Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam and David Beckham Elkatohchoongo were eliminated in the 1/16 final repechage. In the women’s keirin, Sarita Kumari exited in the first-round repechage, while Keerthi Rangaswamy Chikka finished 10th.

Sepak Takraw: Men Win, Women Lose

In the men’s quadrant group stage, India defeated Laos 2-0. The women’s team, however, lost 0-2 to Vietnam and 1-2 to the Philippines.

Three Defeats for India in Esports

In Group B of League of Legends, India suffered 0-1 defeats against Hong Kong, China, the Republic of Korea and Chinese Taipei.

Indian Athletes in Sport Climbing and Sailing

In men’s Speed-4 sport climbing, Deepu Malleshi finished 11th in qualifying to advance to the quarter-finals, while Joga Purti was eliminated in the women’s Speed-4 quarter-finals.

In sailing, Mahi Verma stood third in the girls’ dinghy after the second race of the opening series. In the men’s dinghy, Vishnu Saravanan was fifth after the third race of the qualification series, while Nethra Kumanan stood fourth after the fifth race in the women’s dinghy. India was third in the women’s skiff and second in the men’s skiff.

India’s Medal Count Reaches 60

India added seven medals on Day 12, including four gold, taking its overall tally to 60 — 10 gold, 21 silver and 29 bronze.

China led the standings with 275 medals — 150 gold, 66 silver and 59 bronze. Host Japan was second with 199 medals, comprising 50 gold, 76 silver and 73 bronze, while the Republic of Korea was third with 102 medals — 24 gold, 30 silver and 48 bronze.
