Washington, 30 September (H.S.): Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has invited American manufacturers to expand their presence in India and explore opportunities for investment and collaboration in advanced manufacturing.

Piyush Goyal made the appeal while addressing a business roundtable organised by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministerial. The meeting brought together representatives of small and large manufacturing companies from across the United States.

In a post on X, Piyush Goyal said he had highlighted India’s expanding industrial base and skilled workforce, along with the strong momentum in India-US economic relations, during his interaction with NAM representatives.

Piyush Goyal also emphasised the strength of India-US economic ties and outlined opportunities for American manufacturers to deepen their presence in India, partner with Indian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and explore joint investments in advanced manufacturing.

He said such cooperation could help build resilient supply chains and create value for both economies.

Piyush Goyal arrived in Chicago late Tuesday after attending the business engagement in Milwaukee.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer also participated in the business roundtable and a reception hosted by the National Association of Manufacturers. Greer is hosting the G20 Trade Ministerial in Milwaukee, where discussions are covering issues including forced labour in global supply chains, structural excess capacity and excess production, and other trade-related matters.

The G20 is an international forum comprising major developed and emerging economies that coordinate and discuss economic and trade policies. The United States holds the G20 presidency in 2026. Its members include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the European Union.

Milwaukee is also a major industrial and manufacturing centre in the United States, with significant companies operating in sectors including food and beverages, machinery manufacturing, energy and water technology.
