
New Delhi, 30 September (H.S.): Global markets are sending mixed signals on Wednesday. US markets closed lower in the previous session, although Dow Jones futures were trading firmly today. European markets also ended on a mixed note in the previous session, while Asian markets are witnessing mixed trading today.
Wall Street indices came under pressure in the previous session as rising Treasury bond yields weighed on investor sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 131.59 points, or 0.26 per cent, to close at 51,349.92. The S&P 500 fell 0.17 per cent to end the session at 7,670.84, while the Nasdaq slipped 0.09 per cent to close at 26,797.54.
Meanwhile, Dow Jones futures were trading higher, supported by a decline in crude oil prices. The futures contract was up 202.45 points, or 0.39 per cent, at 51,552.37.
European markets ended the previous session on a mixed note. The FTSE index declined 0.45 per cent to close at 10,636.71, while the CAC index fell 0.53 per cent to finish at 8,035.87. In contrast, the DAX advanced 0.10 per cent to settle at 25,399.21.
Asian markets were also witnessing mixed trading on Wednesday. Of the nine major Asian indices, five were trading in negative territory, while four were holding gains.
The Nikkei index was trading sharply higher, gaining 1,244.73 points, or 1.90 per cent, at 66,726. The Taiwan Weighted Index also posted a strong advance, rising 537.74 points, or 1.13 per cent, to 48,169.70.
The Shanghai Composite Index was up 0.27 per cent at 3,840.83, while the Jakarta Composite Index was trading 0.18 per cent higher at 6,132.47.
On the other hand, GIFT Nifty was down 0.19 per cent at 22,785.50. The Straits Times Index declined 0.16 per cent to 5,709.17.
The SET Composite Index witnessed a sharper decline, falling 1.52 per cent to 1,570.12. The Hang Seng Index was down 0.25 per cent at 24,463, while the KOSPI declined 0.15 per cent to 6,860.38.
