Hojai (Assam), 30 September (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday visited the residence of 101-year-old Upendra Biswas in Hojai and honoured him with the ‘Varishtha Nagrik Samman’ in recognition of his lifelong contribution to society and service to the state.

During the visit, the Governor felicitated Biswas with a traditional gamosa, seleng sador, shawl, dhoti, umbrella and a basket of fruits. He also presented him a cheque of ₹51,000.

Describing Biswas’ life as an inspiring example of dedication, diligence and discipline, Acharya said that honouring senior citizens was a mark of respect for the values, struggles and contributions of the generation that helped build the nation.

“I pray for his healthy and long life,” the Governor said.

The Governor’s visit was part of his engagement in Hojai, where he also interacted with citizens and participated in programmes highlighting the importance of social responsibility and community participation.-----------
