Nashik, 30 Sept (HS): Fraudster Ashok Kumar Kharat,

has been granted three day’s police custody in cheating a textile merchant of

Ahilyanagar by the District and Sessions court. The textile merchant was

advised to wear Pushkaraj (Yellow Sapphire) in gold ring. For prosperity in

business. Kharat was arrested by the Sarkarwada police for cheating the

businessman by giving a fake gem stone. He was produced before the District and

Sessions Court, where Judge Babar, after hearing arguments from both sides,

remanded Kharat to three days' police custody.

In addition, Kharat extorted Rs 2.62 lakh in cash,

besides accepting two gold rings. The complainant has also alleged to have

taken Rs 75,000 in exchange for a rock. On March 19, after learning of the

police action against Kharat, the complainant verified the rings and found them

to be fake and made of brass metal. Subsequently, a complaint was lodged at the

Sarkarwada police station on 27 March. Police sub-inspector Prakash Patil is

investigating the case. Meanwhile, Kharat's troubles are compounded when he is

again remanded in police custody for fraud while he tries to secure bail in a

non-bailable offence.
