Guwahati, 30 September (HS): Police recovered five pistols and 13 rounds of live ammunition in two separate incidents in Assam’s Golaghat and Kamrup districts, with four persons detained for questioning, officials said today.

In Golaghat, police launched an operation at Chungajan in Sarupathar and seized four firearms along with 13 rounds of ammunition. A youth identified as Rakhal Sil, reportedly from Dimapur in Nagaland, was detained in connection with the recovery.

The seized weapons included two 7.65 mm pistols and two .22 pistols. Police also recovered a torchlight and a bag containing plastic material from his possession. Investigators are questioning Sheel to establish the source of the firearms and determine where they were allegedly being taken.

In a separate incident in Kamrup district, three persons from Uttar Pradesh were detained by local residents in the Kosorua area of Hajo after they were allegedly found carrying a pistol.

The detained persons were identified as Vishal Morya, Kuldeep and Akash Morya. Local residents reportedly intercepted the trio and subsequently handed them over to the police.

A pistol and around ₹1 lakh in cash were reportedly recovered from their possession. Police have taken the three into custody and are questioning them to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged possession of the firearm.

Further investigation is underway in both cases to ascertain the source, movement and intended use of the seized weapons.-----------
