New Delhi, 30 September (H.S.): Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a major decision in the interest of farmers for the Kharif Marketing Season 2026–27. The Central Government has approved the procurement of pulses and oilseeds worth Rs 5,547.99 crore at Minimum Support Price (MSP) in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana under the Price Support Scheme (PSS).

According to the government, the move is aimed at providing farmers with financial protection in the event of a decline in market prices and ensuring remunerative returns for their produce.

Announcing the decision on Wednesday, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government remains committed to farmers’ welfare, increasing their incomes and strengthening self-reliance in the agricultural sector. The government’s objective, he said, is to ensure that farmers receive remunerative prices for their produce and that the procurement system remains transparent, accessible and efficient.

Uttar Pradesh: Rs 3,992.57 Crore Procurement

The Central Government has approved procurement worth Rs 3,992.57 crore in Uttar Pradesh. This includes the procurement of 4.66 lakh metric tonnes of tur, valued at Rs 3,937.70 crore, and 6,250 metric tonnes of moong, valued at Rs 54.87 crore.

Karnataka: Rs 1,107 Crore Procurement

In Karnataka, produce worth Rs 1,107 crore will be procured from pulse and oilseed farmers. The procurement includes 1.15 lakh metric tonnes of soybean worth Rs 659.27 crore, 38,250 metric tonnes of moong worth Rs 335.83 crore and 13,413 metric tonnes of sunflower worth Rs 111.90 crore.

Telangana: Rs 448.42 Crore Procurement

In Telangana, procurement worth Rs 448.42 crore has been approved. Under the programme, 62,000 metric tonnes of soybean valued at Rs 353.90 crore and 10,766 metric tonnes of moong valued at Rs 94.52 crore will be procured at MSP.

The Union Minister said the decision would provide farmers with greater financial security while also encouraging the production of pulses and oilseeds across the country. It would further contribute to India’s efforts towards self-reliance in pulses and edible oils, he said.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan added that procurement arrangements at all designated centres would be kept transparent and that farmers would receive payment for their produce directly into their bank accounts within the stipulated timeframe.
