New Delhi, 30 September (H.S.):

The Union Cabinet has approved a Rs. 25 per quintal increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat for the 2027-28 marketing year, taking the support price to Rs. 2,610 per quintal. The MSP for wheat had stood at Rs. 2,585 per quintal during the 2026-27 marketing year.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said at a press conference on Wednesday that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had approved an increase in the MSPs of all mandated rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing year.

He said the government had raised the MSPs of rabi crops with the objective of ensuring better returns to farmers for their produce. Besides wheat, the support prices of several other major rabi crops have also been increased under the decision.

According to Vaishnaw, safflower received the highest increase, with its MSP raised by Rs. 675 per quintal. This was followed by rapeseed and mustard, whose MSP was increased by Rs. 413 per quintal.

The MSP for lentil (masur) was raised by Rs. 390 per quintal, while the increase for barley was Rs. 136 and for gram (chana) Rs. 83 per quintal. The support price for wheat has been increased by Rs. 25 per quintal.
