New Delhi, 03 September (H.S.): The domestic equity market showed strength during early trading on Thursday, with both the Sensex and Nifty opening higher. However, selling pressure immediately after the opening led to a marginal decline during the first 10 minutes of trade. Buying activity subsequently gained momentum, pushing both benchmark indices higher. After the first hour of trading, the Sensex was up 0.39 per cent and the Nifty had gained 0.33 per cent amid continued buying and selling activity.

The BSE Sensex opened 154.60 points, or 0.20 per cent, higher at 76,724.95. Soon after trading began, selling pressure dragged the index down to 76,705.02. Buyers then stepped in, triggering a recovery and pushing the index higher once again. At 10:15 am, after the first hour of trading, the Sensex was trading at 76,866.40, up 296.05 points, or 0.39 per cent.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty began the day at 23,997.95, marking a gain of 83.50 points, or 0.35 per cent. Selling pressure emerged immediately after the market opened, pulling the index down to 23,955.35. Buyers subsequently became active and stepped up purchases. Supported by buying, the Nifty climbed to 24,025.40 within the first half-hour of trade. The index then witnessed a marginal decline. At 10:15 am, the Nifty was trading at 23,992.30, up 77.85 points, or 0.33 per cent.

A total of 2,955 stocks were actively traded in the market during the period under review. Of these, 2,265 stocks were trading in positive territory, while 690 were in the red. Among the 30 Sensex constituents, 14 stocks were trading higher with buying support, while 16 were trading lower amid selling pressure. In the Nifty, 27 of the 50 constituent stocks were trading in the green, while 23 remained in negative territory.

After the first hour of trading, shares of major companies including Adani Ports, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Coal India were trading with gains ranging from 1.63 per cent to 1.23 per cent.

On the other hand, shares of HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, InterGlobe Aviation and Eicher Motors were trading lower, with declines ranging from 1.33 per cent to 0.96 per cent.

In the previous trading session on Wednesday, the Sensex had closed 373.93 points, or 0.49 per cent, lower at 76,570.35. The Nifty had ended Wednesday’s trading session at 23,914.45, registering a decline of 141.35 points, or 0.59 per cent.
