Imphal, 03 September (HS): Security forces and police arrested several suspected insurgent and drug-related operatives and recovered narcotics in separate operations across Manipur on September 2, officials said.

Based on intelligence inputs corroborated by 33 Assam Rifles, a team of CDO-IW conducted a search operation at Ghari Awang Leikai and arrested an active member of the UNLF (K), identified as Yengkokpam Malemnganba Meitei (29), alias Motu, son of Y. Shamu Singh of Charangpat Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district. He was allegedly involved in extortion activities. A white Mahindra Bolero bearing registration number MN06LB 9916 was also recovered.

In a follow-up operation, two more active members of UNLF (K), Salam Tomba Singh (22), alias Tondonba, of Khabam Bamdiar Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district, and Konsam Vivek Meitei (21) of Charangpat Maklang Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district, were arrested.

In another operation, based on reliable intelligence corroborated by 31 Assam Rifles, CDO/Imphal East arrested Yensembam Rajesh Meitei (28), alias Abung alias Khana, from Lamlong Bazar. He allegedly impersonated himself as a member of KCP (MFL) and extorted money from a shop at Konung Mamang in the name of the outfit.

Meanwhile, a joint team of Jiribam District Police, CRPF and Assam Rifles intercepted a truck bearing registration number AS 01 LC 7631 at Makha Basti in Jiribam. The team recovered 10.8 kg of brown sugar/heroin concealed in the roof portion of the truck. The driver, Azahar Hussain alias Monu, son of late Babul Hussain of New Khairabad F.V., Lalpani, Cachar district of Assam, was arrested.

In a separate operation, based on intelligence corroborated by 28 Assam Rifles, CDO/Imphal East arrested two alleged drug peddlers, Akoijam Sushil Meitei (43), alias Inaoton, and Thoiba Nameirakpam (31), alias Ibungo, from Thoubal Phoudel in Thoubal district. Security personnel seized 22.4 kg of cannabis (ganja) and two mobile phones from their possession.

Further legal action has been initiated in all the cases.-----------
