Kolkata, 03 September (H.S.): Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that her party’s office on Camac Street in Kolkata was vandalised in the morning and claimed that documents and electronic equipment were taken away during the incident.

Addressing the issue through a Facebook Live session, Banerjee alleged that BJP-backed men were behind the incident and accused them of carrying out the vandalism with the alleged support of the Kolkata Police.

“We condemn the vandalism at our party office early in the morning in Kolkata. If this is the law and order situation in Kolkata, one can imagine what the situation is in rural areas,” Banerjee said.

The former West Bengal chief minister also accused the BJP of promoting what she described as “total lawlessness” in the state. Referring to recent incidents at Jadavpur University, she alleged that BJP workers were responsible for the disturbances there.

Banerjee further alleged that attempts were being made to restrict her movement. She warned that if what she termed “atrocities” against the TMC continued, the party would organise demonstrations outside BJP leaders’ residences in New Delhi.

Earlier, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had also alleged that armed, BJP-backed men vandalised the Camac Street office. He shared purported CCTV footage showing masked and helmeted individuals leaving the premises with electronic equipment, including television sets and a printer.

The incident has triggered fresh political confrontation between the TMC and the BJP in West Bengal.
