
New Delhi, 03 September (H.S.): Global markets are giving mixed signals today. US markets closed on a firm note in the previous session, while Dow Jones futures are also trading higher. In contrast, European markets ended lower in the previous session. Asian markets, meanwhile, are witnessing a broadly positive trend, with buying interest prevailing across most key indices.
US markets remained buoyant during the previous session, helping Wall Street indices recover from three consecutive sessions of losses and close in positive territory. The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 295.01 points, or 0.56 per cent, to close at 53,061.89. Similarly, the S&P 500 gained 0.46 per cent to end the session at 7,666.60. The Nasdaq also advanced 118.05 points, or 0.45 per cent, to settle at 26,217.83. Meanwhile, Dow Jones futures were trading 0.10 per cent higher at 53,110.98.
Contrary to the US market, European equities remained under pressure during the previous session. The FTSE index declined 0.31 per cent to close at 10,756.45. The CAC index also fell 0.26 per cent to end at 8,280.63, while the DAX dropped 130.78 points, or 0.51 per cent, to settle at 25,839.33.
Asian markets are broadly witnessing buying activity today. Of the nine major Asian markets, eight indices are trading in positive territory, while one remains in the red. The Hang Seng is the only major index currently showing weakness, edging down 0.08 per cent to 25,291.
On the other hand, GIFT Nifty was trading 136.50 points, or 0.57 per cent, higher at 24,101.50. The Straits Times Index also gained 0.52 per cent to reach 5,773.81. South Korea’s KOSPI was witnessing a sharp rally, rising 108.36 points, or 1.62 per cent, to 6,671.08.
Similarly, the Jakarta Composite Index advanced 0.76 per cent to 6,646.42. The SET Composite Index was up 0.47 per cent at 1,582.53, while the Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.43 per cent to 3,958.19. Taiwan’s Weighted Index rose 200.07 points, or 0.43 per cent, to 46,364.79, while Japan’s Nikkei Index gained 209.36 points, or 0.33 per cent, to trade at 64,535.
