Guwahati, 03 September (HS): The Congress has formally ended its alliance with Raijor Dal, with Leader of the Opposition Wajed Ali Choudhury announcing the decision on Thursday.

Reacting to the break-up, Choudhury said that Raijor Dal had forgotten the spirit of the alliance and had repeatedly insulted and belittled the Congress. He said that instead of remaining within the alliance and acting against Congress, Raijor Dal should now oppose the party openly from outside.

“Therefore, from today, all formal relations with Raijor Dal as an alliance partner have been severed,” Choudhury said.

The development comes amid escalating differences between the two parties. Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi had recently described the Congress as the “most rotten party” in India and had also accused it of being the “most corrupt party in the world.”

The formal end of the alliance is expected to further reshape the Opposition camp in Assam ahead of the upcoming political battles.---------------
