
Mohali, 03 September (H.S.): ASI Onkar Singh, who was deployed as a gunman at the residence of former Special DGP Arpit Shukla in Sector 80, Mohali, died after sustaining a gunshot injury on Thursday afternoon.
Following the incident, senior police officials reached the spot and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the firing.
According to police, Arpit Shukla recently retired from police service and is currently residing in Wave Estate. After sustaining the gunshot injury, ASI Onkar Singh was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital in Phase 6, where doctors declared him dead.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the firearm may have accidentally discharged after the pistol fell from his hand. However, sources have claimed that around six shots may have been fired at the spot. Police have not yet officially shared detailed information regarding this aspect of the incident.
Investigators are trying to ascertain the exact circumstances in which the firearm went off and how many rounds were discharged.
Senior police officials have so far refrained from giving further details. The exact sequence of events is expected to become clear after the investigation is completed and all available evidence is examined.
