Guwahati, 29 September (HS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has re-arrested six men in Assam in connection with an alleged extremist network linked to Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), officials said.

The six accused had earlier been released on bail but were taken into custody again by the central agency as part of its ongoing investigation into the alleged terror network.

According to the investigation, IMK, which is based in Bangladesh, was involved in spreading extremist ideologies, including the concept of “Ghazwatul Hind”, and allegedly sought to recruit youths in northeastern states and West Bengal.

Investigators had also found that the network allegedly used a digital platform called “Purba Akash” to radicalise and recruit vulnerable youths for extremist activities.

The NIA had earlier filed charges against 11 individuals allegedly associated with the network before the Special NIA Court in Guwahati under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).-----------
