Imphal, 29 September (HS): Security forces and police carried out multiple operations across Imphal East and Bishnupur districts on September 28, resulting in the recovery of suspected heroin and the arrest of several alleged members of insurgent outfits, officials said.

In one operation, Porompat Police recovered an abandoned A-Star car bearing registration number MN01W-9822 from Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 12 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing 327 grams net. The vehicle and seized contraband were taken into custody for further legal action.

In another joint operation by the CDO/Imphal East and security forces at Sanjenbam Khunou, an active member of KCP (Nongdrenkhomba), identified as Waikhom Hero Meetei alias Ibomcha, 23, was arrested. Police said he was allegedly involved with other cadres of the outfit in the kidnapping of a woman from her residence at Top Awang Leikai. He was being handed over to Lamlai Police Station for further legal action.

Meanwhile, CDO-Bishnupur arrested Md. Islaouddin alias Ibosana, 55, son of Md. Jaheruddin of Lilong Mairen Khun, from Lilong Tairen Makhong. He was allegedly involved in recruiting new cadres for NRFM.

In a separate operation, the Special CDO Unit, Khabeisoi, arrested Waikhom Sena, 24, son of Waikhom Sanayaima of Luwangsangbam Mamang Leikai, Imphal East. Police identified him as an active NRFM member and alleged that he was involved in drafting and publishing articles on behalf of the outfit on social media and in daily newspapers, besides unauthorised money transactions. He is also the president of the Manipur Student Federation (MSF), Imphal East.

Police recovered ₹2,67,500 in cash, comprising 535 notes of ₹500 denomination, allegedly extorted money and an Apple MacBook reportedly used for drafting articles and press releases of the organisation from his residence.

In another anti-narcotics operation, a joint team of Imphal East District Police, security forces and YADAM acted on intelligence and conducted an operation at Nongmeibung under Porompat Police Station. Two residents of Kwakta, Md. Ayub Khan, 24, and Md. Tomba, 30, were arrested.

The operation led to the seizure of 12 soap cases containing suspected Heroin No. 4 weighing 157 grams net and a Maruti Suzuki van bearing registration number MN01CS-3664. Further legal proceedings are underway.-----------
