New Delhi, 29 September (H.S.): The Ministry of Railways on Tuesday announced that Indian Railways has approved two new Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) services to strengthen regional rail connectivity in Uttar Pradesh. The new services will operate between Meerut City and Khurja and between Meerut City and Saharanpur, with commercial halts at all stations along their respective routes.

According to the Railways, Train No. 64573 Khurja–Meerut City MEMU will depart from Khurja at 1:15 pm and arrive at Meerut City at 5:20 pm. In the return direction, Train No. 64574 Meerut City–Khurja MEMU will depart from Meerut City at 11:25 am and reach Khurja at 4:00 pm.

The new Khurja–Meerut City MEMU service will have journey times of four hours and five minutes and four hours and 35 minutes, respectively, in the two directions. The train will make commercial halts at all stations along the route.

Similarly, Train No. 64580 Saharanpur–Meerut City MEMU will depart from Saharanpur at 5:50 am and arrive at Meerut City at 8:10 am. In the return direction, Train No. 64579 Meerut City–Saharanpur MEMU will leave Meerut City at 5:45 pm and reach Saharanpur at 8:40 pm.

The Saharanpur–Meerut City service will have journey times of two hours and 20 minutes and two hours and 55 minutes, respectively. This service, too, will provide commercial halts at all stations along the route.

The Ministry said the two new MEMU services would strengthen regional rail connectivity with Meerut City serving as a key hub, while providing passengers with additional travel options between Khurja, Meerut and Saharanpur.

The services are expected to facilitate more convenient daily commuting and improve rail access for passengers travelling between important urban and semi-urban centres in western Uttar Pradesh.
