New Delhi, September 29 (HS): The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday discussed several key issues concerning civic amenities, pollution control, sanitation and unauthorised construction during a meeting of its House. The House approved proposals to procure 70 new mechanical road sweepers and 1,000 vacuum-based, battery-powered litter-picking machines to strengthen the city’s sanitation infrastructure.

Deputy Mayor Dr Monika Pant said the deployment of modern machinery would help improve road-cleaning operations and dust-control measures. She said the corporation was placing greater emphasis on the use of modern technology and equipment to make sanitation services more effective.

She said the House had also approved a proposal under Section 506(A) of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act to declare 48 villages in Delhi as urbanised areas. The move is expected to accelerate the development of civic amenities and basic infrastructure in these villages.

During the meeting, councillors from various political parties discussed pollution, unauthorised construction and other civic issues and put forward their suggestions. The Deputy Mayor alleged that councillors from the Aam Aadmi Party had not participated in the proceedings to the extent expected. She said elected representatives should rise above political differences and play an active role in the House on matters concerning citizens.

Dr Monika Pant said councillors also raised issues affecting their respective wards. These included sanitation, civic amenities, roads, infrastructure and other local concerns requiring resolution.

She said the corporation’s objective was to strengthen civic amenities and improve sanitation services across Delhi. The MCD would continue to prioritise public-interest initiatives and work towards making the national capital cleaner and better organised.
