Sambhal, 29 Sept (HS): A court in Chandausi

on Tuesday deferred the hearing

in the Shahi Jama Masjid-Harihar temple case to October 16 due to

a Supreme Court stay on proceedings. The case was scheduled

for consideration before Civil Judge

(Senior Division) Aditya Singh. In

November 2024,

the Supreme Court imposed a

temporary stay on the examination of the 16th-century Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal and stopped all actions

related to the dispute in the trial

court.

The attorney for the Hindu side,

Shrigopal Sharma, stated that the case was scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday, but no actions occurred since the case

is on hold due to the Supreme

Court's directive.

The legal conflict arose on November

19, 2024, as Hindu petitioners,

including lawyers Hari Shankar Jain and Vishnu Shankar

Jain, submitted a lawsuit in the Sambhal

district court asserting that the mosque was constructed on a temple site. The Muslim side contested

the case's viability in the Allahabad

High Court, yet on May 19, 2025, the high court affirmed the trial court’s ruling allowing a court-monitored

survey and instructed it to advance with

the issue.

On November 19,

2024, a survey

mandated by the

court took place

at the location.

The subsequent survey on November 24 caused considerable turmoil

in Sambhal, leading to the deaths of four individualsand injuries

to 29 cops. The police registered

a case against Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq and

mosque committee leader Zafar Ali related to the violence, in addition to filing an FIR against 2,750 unknown individuals.
