New Delhi, 29 September (H.S.): The Kolkata unit of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday launched search and seizure operations at 15 locations across Kolkata in connection with an alleged financial irregularities case involving the MassArt (Mahanirvan Road Mass Art) Society and the organisation of a ‘preview show’ for Durga Puja. The action is being carried out under Section 17 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

According to the ED, the MassArt Society allegedly collected substantial amounts of money from the public by portraying itself as a UNESCO-sponsored organisation. The investigating agency has alleged that the funds collected were subsequently used for personal gains.

The searches cover premises linked to various individuals and entities, including former minister Indranil Sen and his close associates. The ED is continuing its investigation into the matter.
